Conclusion of the "Agreement on Medical Cooperation during Disasters and Emergencies" with Tottori University Hospital
Tokushima University Hospital and Tottori University Hospital have concluded the "Agreement on Medical Cooperation during Disasters and Emergencies." The agreement aims to maintain and strengthen the medical care systems of both institutions in preparation for large-scale disasters, such as a potential Nankai Trough earthquake. A signing ceremony was held on July 10, 2026.
Given that Tokushima and Tottori prefectures are designated as disaster support counterparts, this agreement establishes a direct partnership between two disaster base hospitals: one on the Pacific coast (Tokushima) and the other on the Sea of Japan coast (Tottori). Because these regions face a low risk of simultaneous damage from the same disaster, this geographical advantage enables swift, flexible action during emergencies. This includes mutually accepting patients, dispatching medical staff, and supplying medical goods.
Furthermore, this partnership extends beyond emergency assistance. In peacetime, both hospitals will collaborate on disaster training, including patient transport, and disaster education. Through these joint efforts to improve disaster medical skills, both institutions aim to enhance regional disaster resilience.
